Rock Island Line
Refrain: Oh that Rock Island Line is a mighty good road,
Oh that Rock Island Line is the road to ride,
Oh that Rock Island Line is mighty good road,
If you want to ride, you got to ride it like you find it,
Get your ticket at the station on the Rock Island Line.
I may be right and I may be wrong,
You’re going to miss me when I’m gone.
Refrain
A B C W X Y Z,
Cats in the cupboard, but they don’t see me!
Refrain
Originally made popular by “Lead Belly” (Huddie Ledbetter), Lead Belly learned the “Rock Island Line” from Arkansas prisoners during the late 1930’s. The Rock Island railroad went bankrupt in 1980. Its lines ran from Rock Island, Illinios to Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana.
