The Beauty of a Slow Song

I find that my kids are often attracted to faster songs, ones that have a strong beat for clapping and dancing. I also love the joy and levity of upbeat songs - they get my toes tapping and bring a smile to my face. It is often hard to transition to a slow song. It takes it moment to let your body be still, to let what you hear start to filter down to your heart and feed your soul. Like the stillness and awe-inspiring colors and shapes of nature's landscape or a noticing the subtle details of a piece of art, we are experiencing beauty in a different way. As you listen or make music with your child, make time to sit with slower musical pieces. It can be a wonderful way to bond with your children and help them connect with an imaginative and deeper part of themselves. Here a few of my favorites... (and oh there are so many others!)

Ashokan Farewell by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason Family Band
